i don't know why i haven't heard anything about this movie until now. sam rockwell's performance is pretty cool. his characters are two clones, so he plays two different roles against one another. i love the look and feel of the lunar station setting. it isn't wildly advanced and futuristic, but instead recollects images from Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey and other classic 60s & 70s sci-fi movies. there's a nice balance between a vintage aesthetic and a feeling of what a real time space station would look like. the movie invites a lot of interesting questions about cloning, energy resources, the psychology of humans in space, not to mention what it would be like to meet and interact with yourself. definitely worth a rent.

german biologist Ernst Haeckel, who is most noted for his research of radiolarians, inspired artists and architects of the 20th century (and into the 21st) with his book, "Kunstformen der Natur" (Art Forms in Nature). the book includes 100 plates illustrating various plants, animals and protozoa. the imagery and detail in this book is stunning. take a look at ole Ernst below (on left)...whata dream boat.

a good read

this book is pretty radical. it's about an artist, a writer, who is struggling to stay true to his art and sell his writings. however, after a few setbacks and being generally down on his luck, his mind starts unraveling to the brink of insanity. the character frustrates the reader time and time again with his stubborn determination and crazed actions. but, it's a very sharp portrait of a starving artist.

oh carlyn's flickr page is remarkable. she does a lot of oddball collages where she mixes retro-looking images with photographs or prints. or just straight out has some amazing photos of incredibly dreamy scenes. truly kooky, psychedelic imagery. give it a look.
